Apart from viscosity and tolerance to high temperature and pressure, stability is also an important characteristic that distinguishes one type of oil from the other. Oils that are considered to be stable are those which cannot allow for oxidation. Oxidation leads to formation of acids or sludge, which are not allowed in planes. The lubricant becomes less efficient when it is oxidized and it can corrode the engine internally.

Before buying the product, one is advised to carry out a lot of research. In the research, one should aim at knowing the cost and qualities of the product. Factors that may determine the cost of the product include the manufacturer and quality of the product.
